VO Case Study & Comparison

Carbon Energy is in the process of completing the installation of 33 Stabilising Voltage Optimisation (VO) units across the UK. Our client had previously installed autotransformer VO units and Carbon Energy has produced a comparison of the voltage reduction achieved by using Stabilising Technology – which effectively increased the savings by 30%. There are no controls (manual or automatic by-pass switches) with the autotransformer unit and the only viewable elements are the input and output voltages. 

The table below shows single phase voltage of 245v (input) and 227.5v (output), a 7% saving. With the Stabilising VO unit, the output voltage would have been 220v, a 10.2% saving, ie 30% more savings.

When the input voltage rises, as it usually does at night, the savings differential between the two technologies will be even higher. Taking  a situation where the input voltage is 252v the savings will be as follows:
